A colostomy is a surgical procedure in which a stoma is formed by drawing the healthy end of the large intestine or colon through an incision in the anterior abdominal wall and suturing it into place. This opening, in conjunction with the attached stoma appliance, provides an alternative channel for feces to leave the body. It may be reversible or irreversible depending on the circumstances.
The ways of removing the feces from the body through the stoma requires the use of the existing colostomy appliance, which involves attaching a flange to the skin with adhesives. In order to attach the flange, you must first measure the diameter of the stoma and then cut the exact size in the flange, then attach the bag (two pieces). The other way is to apply the flange with the attached bag with it to the skin. Either way, the bag must be attached to the patient at all times. Weather conditions, taking showers, and other variables affect the adhesive and might cause it to be separated.
It allows patients to live worry-free life and have confidence in carrying daily activities such as traveling, swimming, sports, intimate relationships, etc.
